Project 2 - Iconography

I did a little research into Iconography art and came across a few interesting images. I particularly like the recreated image of Marilyn Monroe because it takes a classic image and creates almost a demonic icon due to the horns and the skull like aspects of the face. It's striking due to the classic pop art colors it sticks with but it grabs the observer for longer because of the blatant and obvious symbols of deterioration and darkness.

I also quite like this image because of its simplicity. Although the color palette is limited, the way it is constructed/ painted creates a texture, particularly at the bottom point of the arm. This simplicity and 3 color palette means that the text/ message comes through undisturbed by any other elements. This is essentially what the core of iconography is about - due to its non-abstract nature, any message that an artist portrays through iconography is generally much more clear with less room for interpretation.

After I did this research, I found a few black and white images to help me visualize the combination of achromaticity and iconography. I particularly like the ink drawings so I'm considering using this as my medium for this project.

Finally, after doing some initial ideas, I was considering using a figure in my image to represent fashion  photography, so I did a little research into different silhouettes and poses that I can consider using in my image.

I love all of these, but I'm going to choose a fairly simple pose so I won't detract from the rest of what's going on in my image.
